John and MK met on October 20th, 2014 while they were both students at the University of Virginia. MK asked John to practice yoga with her, and they began dating soon afterwards.
They enjoyed spending time together over the next two months, though neither had expected to start a serious relationship at the time – MK was leaving to study abroad in the spring, and John was set to graduate. But their bond was undeniable, and they began dating in earnest shortly after MK returned from London and John completed law school in May 2015.
After MK's graduation in May 2016, the couple left Charlottesville for good to embark on a month-long adventure around northwestern Europe before starting their respective jobs. In a very well-executed surprise, John proposed at London's Tower Bridge to a soundtrack of Johnny Cash, David Bowie, and songs from MK's favorite childhood movie, Labyrinth.
After a year of short-distance engagement, John and MK are now happily married and living together in their new home in Washington, D.C. After several whirlwind years of adventure, the newlyweds are excited to build their new life together in D.C. and continue following their own path.
